Lynn White lwhite@itd.state.id.us When I lived in Blackfoot, Idaho, there was a woman who bred Arabians on the property adjacent to ours. Recently I read in the paper that she was arrested for animal neglect and her horses were confiscated by Bingham County. Afer contacting my friend last night I learned that this woman had 75 horses and had NO Hay to feed them with. She would get a pickup load of hay now and then but otherwise, the horses were starving. I was told that the horses literally ate the wooden fence and overgrazed the pasture to nothing. One two-year-old that was confiscated had never been trimmed and could hardly walk. Some of the horses had to be euthanized immediastely, and there were two dead horses on the property. I could go on, but the reader probably gets the point of the condidtions of these poor horses. I understand that the horses are at a non-disclosed located and are being evaluated to see which ones can be saved and which ones need to be put down. Anyway, the woman was chrged with assalting a police officer and has 38 charges of animal cruelty and neglect. She'll probably serve time for the officer assault. Her fines will amount to over $150K if the judge throws the book at her. I don't think that she will be getting any of her horses back. I do remember that she had some really nice brood mares when I lived there. If anyone is interested, they should contact Bigham County. The woman's court date is March 8.
