[RC] Training ride epiphany - Rides 2 Far

I'm no expert and I have NO endurance (50 milers) yet. >sounds like you

much the whole way, I would have

Well...I recommend that both of you just jump in with both feet and go to
a ride :-)...just choose your ride carefully. Ask around for a ride with
a single track trail for quite a ways after the start, and even
better...a mountain. Avoid what people call "easy" courses. Nothing's
easy when you're taking turns on 2 wheels. I've been on horses that at
12 miles per hour were relaxing, and I've been on them where 9mph made my
life pass before my eyes. When the bit becomes purely ornamental,
everything feels like mach speed. A horse that's trotting 12 mph feels
more in control. Plenty of times I've had my horse trotting that fast
and another horse would gallop up beside us and mine would break...then
it became a bad situation even though the speed never changed.

P.S. I've almost never done training rides at speeds averaging out to 9.6
    mph.
