[RC] riding in traffic - Laura Hayes

The only problem here is you have to be able to get the horse to where he
can tolerate the traffic without being dangerous and THAT is dangerous!
Years ago when I couldn't shoe my own horses due to pregnancy (that child is
in college now!) We took them out to an amish friend to shoe. The shop was
on a busy road and the fellow was busy, so we parked along the road and
waited. My then four year old was terrible in traffic - nervous and
unpredictible - but after two hours of parking along this road in the stock
trailer with his older buddy, safe and with company, he became desensitized
and was much better from then on. He went on to be a 3000+ mile horse, I
sold him to a man in Pittsburgh and alot of his training was down busy
roads.
