[RC] RC: popped splint? - Amy Martin
My accident prone 4 year old mare has what the vet termed "popped a splint."
Apparently she hurt herself on the trailer ride over to the vets to get her
teeth floated because as we were standing there while she was getting her
teeth done the vet casually asked about the swelling on her leg. An x ray
later I have a bandaged horse on stall rest. They said they couldn't see a
fracture on the splint bone but that with the heat and swelling it seemed a
fresh injury. Is this a common injury? What kind of recovery can I expect?
The regimen I am on is 2g bute daily, leg wrapped with a furazone sweat, and
stall rest for 5 days then return for another x-ray and assessment. Thanks,
Amy and Tequiza(the self designated queen of stall rest)
