Re: [RC] Tattooing for sun protection? - sharp penny
Having owned paint horses with alot of pink-skinned white
on the face, this is not a problem that would require
tattooing. We do tattoo around the eye on some blue-eyed
horses, but no one I know of has ever tattooed that much
white on the face. Just to have the eyes outlined is
several hundred dollars and this dosn't include the cost of
the shot to put them down while they are being tattooed.
Sunscreen works very well, as does zinc oxide. I have had
great success with applying bullfrog sun block (SPF 30 that
people use) once a day on my sunburn prone horses. It's
waterproof and dosn't sweat off in the hot humid Texas
summers. None of these horses has had any skin cancer.
Regards,
Penny
