[RC] Just DO IT!!! - Floyd & Margaret Reid
*** Endurance is easy. I would like to encourage those of you who are
sitting on the sidelines...try it, go for the gusto...just DO IT.
Hadima and I arrived at Coso Junction CA, Saturday after the rain and
checked in for Coso Jam II. This was her rescheduled debut (see previous
posting "EPM recoveree"). The full rainbow at high-noon was beautiful.
The wonderful experience began with me, 69.6 y/o, 6'1", sleeping in the
back seat of the Ford SuperCab pickup. Upon returning from BR duties at 4:15
a.m., I fed Hadima and dressed to ride, except for shoes, then crawled back
into the sleeping bag. I awoke at 6:18 a.m., washed down a breakfast bar
with a can of Ensure...saddled, bridled and and left base camp 3 minutes
after the 6:30 a.m. out-time.
The morning was exhilarating. The mountain-top views of lakes and
snow-covered Mt Whitney were spectacular. The volunteers were
incredible...thanks for being there and taking such great care of us.
When I posted "Just DO IT" on 9/15/02, repliers stated:
>>I'm not trying to be snarky, just can't quite believe it is so
>>easy to get a horse adequately prepared for a 50.
>>I don't like to see posts like that one either...because of the
>>implication that other folks can do the same thing.
Fortunately the sport of endurance is able to challenge the experts as
well as this ignorant, old man. It is great to have completed a 50-miler on
the produce of my breeding. I raised Hadima's mother and grand-mother, and I
owned and rode her great-great-grandfather *Thabit (Alaa el Din x Kaydahom).
