In most cases, even when the vet pulls the horse, the pull occurs before
the horse is truly hurt. The attempt to glean data from pull codes is one
to help to educate veterinarians to understand why horses don't complete,
and to help to sharpen skills so that MORE of the pulls occur before the
horse actually sustains any degree of permanent damage. It is unfortunate
that riders' egos have gotten in the way of that goal, and that our
concern is now focused on whether the rider feels a stigma attached to the
attempt to collect data, rather than on whether we might learn something
from that data to help to protect our equine companions. And I thought we
cared about the horses---silly me....
