Is posting a necessity? I say
no, and I believe it is an affection of
riders to make up for lack of condition as well as poorly conformed
horses.

My husband rode his Arab gelding for a year
without posting before he realized that he was hurting his horse's
back. So he took posting lessons and now looks better than most
professionals when he posts. I have never posted. So it
probably depends on what a person thinks is best for his horse. If
it works for you and your horse not to post, then I'd say do what feels
right to you.
