Actually, the vulva is partially sutured in some women as well, from what I
understand, to reduce contamination just as the procedure does in mares.
Different procedure from dealing with the incompetent cervix entirely.
I can imagine that mares with a faulty vulva in the first place might have a
problem with what they call "wind sucking" on the track, but why on earth
the race trackers insist on suturing perfectly normal and healthy young
mares is beyond me as well.
