Re: [RC] Coso Junction - desrtrydr
Hi Melanie,
I probably can give you some info about the ride.
It is held at Coso Junction, Hwy 395. I would guess
about 5-6 hours from Poway depending on traffic. Ride
camp is behind the Coso Junction store. Yes, there is a
Taco Bell there besides food at the Coso Store. We are
also offering dinner Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Parking is flat with access to people and horse water.
There is a gas station and for those of you with
facilities, a free dumping station at the rest stop
across the street from the store.
The trail is desert hills and does have sand and some
rocks. You might see some wild horses as they do travel
to Haiwee reservoir to get water.
On the first day, you will travel over the mountain
range you can see from camp and back down beside Haiwee
Reservoir. I'm told there should be pelicans? on the
reservoir. The trip down the mountain should be
interesting as there is a lot of geology to see plus a
nice view of the sierras to the west. There will
probably still be water in the natural stream you will
cross as you head back to Coso Junction. The afternoon
loop the 50's do heads north towards Haiwee. There are
rocks on this loop as the trail follows some of the old
train tracks.
The second days loop will use loop 1 and 2 of Geo Bun
Buster which is good footing with some sand and rocks
and head north again in the afternoon for the 50's.
Lunch both days is at base camp.
We've worked hard to provide riders with a couple of
days to ride. Please come.
