>They did an experiment where they trimmed a horse and
verified P3 was ground parallel.
Then did sole and bar paring that is typical among many farriers (as they put it, many farriers seem to think they are paid by the amount of hoof
laying on the ground when they’re done). Then they x-rayed again and found P3 had
dropped 3 degrees!
Farriers who are that knife happy don't get invited
back to places with educated owners! "Many farriers" is not synonymous
with "good farriers"--and honestly, most farriers who do that are doing so for
non-riding owners who seem to expect that they will sculpt a foot out of what it
there that looks like they think it should look, never mind how the hoof is
really built. (I see some veterinarians get into the same owner-pressure
mode when owners always think the vet should give the horse a shot, never mind
that what the horse may need is a change in management to solve his
problems.)
