RE: [RC] [RC] barefoot endurance - Lynne Glazer

    Steve,

As a personal longtime friend of Henry's, I can attest to his sincere shot at objectivity about Strasser's method.

If you go with the Strasser or other barefoot method, you trim your horse's feet *a whole lot more frequently* than every 6-8 weeks. If you aren't certified yourself (or a very dedicated amateur), you are going to employ somebody to do that trim for you. For LOTS MORE MONEY since it's repeated so frequently.

Why wouldn't this be a hoofcare specialist (lower case deliberate) like a farrier? I still have my farrier trim my horses when they are barefoot.

If the method worked, it would be just another revenue opportunity for farriers.

Kind of like asking a witch doctor what he thinks about antibiotics.

Press Release: The Strasser Method Trim Considered by Henry Heymering, CJF, RMF President, Guild of Professional Farriers

Considering Dr. Hiltrud Strasser's specialized barefoot-only hoof care method, all I can tell you with
certainty is that (1) the Strasser method resembles a franchise; (2) reasonable proof has not been presented
regarding her claims either that the Strasser trim is better than other trimming methods, or that horseshoes
cause any significant damage; and (3) Dr. Strasser herself says her trim may cause the death of the horse.
Until evidence of the safety and effectiveness of the Strasser trim is provided I cannot recommend the
Strasser trim in place of more traditional farrier methods.
