I find it amazing that out of 5863 members in the AERC that
there are only nine persons running for Director at Large
positions. That means that only 0.15% of the members are
interested in how the Conference runs. You might say that no
body gives a damn.

Aux contraire, cher Bob! May I offer some other conclusions than
your last sentence?
Some of us give back to the sport in other ways:
Some prefer working at the local level, offering rides, without which
there would be no AERC.
Some are active in regional organizations or CTR groups.
Some volunteer at several rides a year.
Some mentor other riders, whether formally or informally.
Some breed and train horses for our sport.
Some vet rides.
Some get their businesses to sponsor rides.
Some are so inexperienced that they are still getting a handle on how
to participate at all.
Some struggle to attend rides at all, with their work and family schedules.
And yes, some just ride their horses.
Some lack people skills and/or the ability to discuss and reach
compromises or consensus.
*You know what I wonder?
Take the subset of current AERC members, whose AERC numbers are under
10,000. That's the experience base of the organization, IMHO. How
many riders does this total? Subtract the ones who have served in
the past. What is that number?
Those are the ones I'd like to consider serving the organization as a
DAL providing all of those reasons listed above aren't their raison
d'etre. (Je ne parle pas Francais!)
