Hello all,
I am looking at a yearling filly, she a very
nice horse, sorrel with 3 1/2 socks and blaze. A real looker. needs some hands
on,but I don't ride them until they are 3 or 4 so there's lots of time for
ground work, ect.
Only problem is her front hooves have very
high heels. The lady said she wasn't there the last time the farrier was
out and she wasn't at all happy with the job he did on her. None of her other
horses had high heels. I was thinking maybe a club foot?. But she said no, just
have my farrier drop them down.
She moves well, sound at a trot both ways, Legs are nice, no
swelling ect. She is a reg. 3/4 arab. Nice breeding( ferson ect), is
out of the stallion I was planing to bred my mare too before she got heaves last
winter, and decided to just buy a yearling. Her reason for selling
was she owns the stallion and doesn't show any more.
Other then the high heels I can't see any reason not to
buy her.
I have a very good farrier, he's one of the best around. But I
just keep wondering if I'm just buying trouble.
Any one else out there ever have to drop heels on a young
horse? A friend says there's lots of time to angle them and lots of show
people let the heels get longer. But I not so sure, is the damage
done?
Maybe I should just pass on her. But with this being the only
reason... she is so nice other wise.
I'm I just worrying to much?
