[RC] Equine rotococcus - Sunset Farm
Hi, I need some help from the vets on rotococcus! We have a boarder at our
farm with a 3 month old filly that is been diagnosed with this, we have
never heard of this particular strain. She is very sick, high temp(106),
very lethargic, and her dam is very concerned. The filly is in a local
equine hospital, getting IV antibiotics and fluids, the vets have already
said she might not make it, what I really want to know is where it came
from and how we prevent the other horses from getting it. She had a small
bout of choke and got aspiration pneumonia, seemed to be fine, normal
temp, attitude, and eating good after her ten day course of oral
antibiotics, could this of been from not completely knocking out the first
pneumonia, please can you give me a little more info? We just got back
form the Biltmore ride and had a great time to find this little tragedy at
home, thanks in advance, Lynn Kenelly AERC#22506
