My daughter loved the Aragorn quote.
My daughter is doing English pleasure and hunter
hack on her endurance Arab. She is still a little, well, um,
speedy.
Reminds me of a few years ago when my friend and I
took our daughters to a jumping clinic on their Arabs. The instructor was
having everyone trot a half arena circle, then over the jump. The girls
were doing two circles to every one the quarter horses were doing...so their
circles kept getting bigger and bigger, until they were going around the whole
arena. They were still lapping the quarter horse. The instructor
told them to do smaller circles so that their horses "would not get
tired." My friend and I just about died laughing.
About 30 minutes into this clinic, my daughers
Arab, Ashley, decided this was boring and there was no point. She started
running around the jump. The instructor jumped forward to block her, and
Ashley crashed into the jump standard, falling down and ejecting my
daughter. I'll stick to endurance, far safer!

Subject: Re: [RC] show endurance
we spent 14 hrs at a 4-h open show
yesterday, if that isn't endurance, I don't know what is. !?!
I have to admit the boys didn't do too
well with their little endurance mares in western pleasure, (I never did hear
them ask for the extended trot?!??) but they sure made us proud
in horsemanship and the speed events <BG>

Went to a horse show
yesterday as a substitute mom. My first one ever.
Between saddle and outfit changes
it felt like I had crewed for 10 hundred milers.
I will take endurance over
showing any day.
I also spent time explaining to
my charge and any one else who would listen why they needed to have water at
the trailers. They all thought I was crazy when I suggested they carry
water from the trough to the trailer area. I am sure they wanted to commit
me to the insane asylum when I did carry 2 - 5 gallon buckets to our
trailer.
Had lots of laughs and saw
another side to the horse world
