Re: [RC] Jerez - a few thoughts - DABNEY FINCH
I agree with you and Angie too. I like to have 2 one hour holds on a
100 and one on a 50, maybe only 45 minutes if it's cold. And it also makes
sense to have the longer loops at the beginning.
Swanton Pacific does a great job in this respect. First loop is 35
miles--weeds out marginal horses before they get in trouble, gets a lot of
mileage done while horses and riders are fresh and it's cool and light out.
Then as the day goes on, the VCs get closer together--but there's another
hour hold so the horses get a chance to refuel.
I'm wondering if endurance is naturally falling into a "professional"
category that is very serious, moneyed, and likely to "push the envelope"
and then there's people like me, and my endurance buddies, whose motto is
"girls just want to have fun"--AND happy, healthy horses--even if it means
we have to finish in the dark. Angie--you seem to successfully stradle both
worlds!
