One of our ride vets, who is in the midst of an epidemic of WNV (she has had
30 cases in her practice, and lost 4 ) is recommending:
1. wait until after this bug season if you haven't given the 3rd shot. She
has had a couple of horses get sick right after the 3rd shot and thinks they
were fighting WNV, and the extra challenge of the vaccine diverted the
immune system from fighting the disease.
2. Plan on continuing with 6 month boosters from here on. In MN WI this
means Nov and May.
3. Things and recommendations are changing so keep in touch with your vet.
He/she will know more in a few months.
