    >>>Actaully, I suspect that had it been Prince Harry (of England) that

had done the same thing, that Howard's response might have been

similar. My guess is that it has as much to do with envy a

Actually, I remember back in 1990 or so when I first started hearing
murmerings that endurance could become an Olympic sport the word on the
street was that the other horse sports were considered "elitist"
(remember Princess Ann?) and that we would be an antidote to that. I'd
say that argument is history now.

I have a 16 year old daughter and if she had jockeyed a horse to the win
at the WEG I'd consider it a tremendous accomplishment, but on a
different scale than some in the past that were trained by their owner.

Right now I have Charbiel, the reigning Pan Am silver medalist at my
house. He's been offered to my 12 year old daughter to ride. If she
won a 100 on him, it certainly wouldn't meant she was a champion...but
that she had ridden one. I'd still be very proud, but on a different
     level.

I think in an accidental way, the people who so desperately wanted
endurance to be an Olympic sport have changed it from a sport that
*could* have been one to another form of horse racing. I think a
winner's circle photo with the trainer, owner, breeder, and of course
the jockey would be far more appropriate than giving the jockey a
medal. Still an incredible accomplishment, but a very different one.
Might as well make Stock Car Racing an Olympic sport too.
