 Howard,

I haven't had any problems (so far) with birds stealing my
fish.  My goldfish have grown so much that it would take a big,
coastal-type bird to pick on of those rascals up, even if they moved fast enough
to catch them.  The fish tend to stay at the bottom of the trough, and so
do the ones in the pond.

As for diseases in bird poop?  We have to really
watch closely for salmonella here.  Birds flying back north from Old Mexico
tend to have it.  It seems to especially affect the grackles, but I shoot
at them anyway because they crap on my clothesline and steal my pecans.
We've been very fortunate, so far.  I hope I didn't just jinx
it!
