Re: [RC] Motion #4 - Barbara McCrary
There aren't enough weekends in a year to accommodate all the rides we have,
or wish to have. It just can't be done, to restrict a weekend to only one
ride in a given region. The W and PS regions are probably the worst
impacted because of the more agreeable weather conditions and the greater
population density.
So, does this mean that someone couldn't reinstate the Applegate-Lassen ride
because the months of permissible weather conditions are already taken up
with other multi-day rides? If so, then why bother even trying. A real
pity, because this is almost the only multi-day ride that is literally on an
historic pioneer trail. Whatever happened to the intention that a multi-day
ride was to take place on "an historic trail"? This has deteriorated to
translate into "taking place in an historic area". Well, gee whiz! What
area in the world doesn't have history of some sort? The original concept
of the multi-day ride was that it was to be on "an historic trail". It used
to be that way, when the XP rides actually were on the route of the Pony
Express. All this changed when ride managers found out that more riders
would come if they could park in a base camp, didn't have to move each day,
and didn't have to bring a driver.
Granted, a lot easier, but not very historical. I guess a lot of riders
don't really care if they are riding on the same trail as the pioneers
traveled over 150 years ago, but personally I find it fascinating and
awe-inspiring. Sigh.......
