Re: Fw: [RC] 3 day 150 mi. Rides - Barbara McCrary
Now that Swanton Pacific is over, I can get back to reading Ridecamp.
The disallowing of special events within 2 weeks of each other was a policy
as a courtesy to each special event ride manager. It is not a written rule,
and I hope it never will be, because there are so many multi-day rides now
that if we adhered to this policy as a rule, there could never be any others
initiated. For example: we might like to put on Applegate-Lassen 5-day
ride again sometime. Being a desert ride, the time frame would limited to
June or possibly September, due to weather conditions. With the number of
multi-day rides now in place, we would not be able to offer this ride if the
"two weeks apart" policy is strictly followed. Unless AERC is prepared to
tell prospective ride managers they cannot hold a ride, then I, and many
others, believe that rides should be handled like any commercial business.
The riders must choose which ride they will attend, even if there are three
of them on the same weekend. If AERC started restricting the number of
rides that can be held it will be a considerable loss to the sport, and an
eager prospective ride manager should NEVER be discouraged. New rides keep
our sport refreshing, interesting and challenging.

Ride manager, Swanton Pacific 75/100
