[RC] Need Sportsaddle Advice - Ridecamp Guest
Donna Goodman donnabgood@xxxxxxxxxxx
I am not an endurance rider (yet!) but do a lot of trail riding and some arena work. I needed to retire my aged Stubben Sigfreid since it was not a great fit for my horse, and wanted a saddle that encourages me to ride with a more balanced seat, so I recently purchased a 15' treeless sportsaddle, endurance model with the endurance rigging set back 1/2". This size seemed like the right fit to both me and the dealer. I received the saddle last week and it seems to fit me comfortably at a walk, but at a sitting and posting trot as well as a canter, I am finding that the inside of my upper thighs bang against the pommel and are bruising. Basically, it appears to me that the saddle may not be roomy enough. I am probably going to reorder a full size larger, but before I do that, has anyone had a similar experience with this kind of saddle and if so, do you have any advice for me? I am wondering if having the stirrups set back a full inch instead of a half inch would make a big enough difference in my posting position that could help resolve this problem. Or could it be that I have gotten so used to posting in a forward seat that my position in the saddle is the problem? Thanks for any advice from folks. This is the first saddle I have ever purchased new so I guess I am a newbie!
