How do people care for their horses legs after riding –
most specifically in the case of multi-days, but in general after a competition? I did my first multi-day last year at Outlaw
Trail (LD only though). But it was enough of a difference from
the 2 day CTRs that we were used to, that my mare
really stocked up after the 3rd day. Some kind souls took pity on us and loaned
me some wraps and a poultice for the last couple days. I’d been able to reduce the fluid
accumulation by lots of walking, but the wraps did really help.
But I’ve been reading about preventing tendon injuries
and got worried that leaving legs wrapped all night ended up with the legs too
warm, which doesn’t sound like a totally good thing either.
I always hose down legs after hard rides with as cold water
as I can get my hands on and have recently purchased some ice boots. But still, what do you do overnight?
Any ideas appreciated – we have Outlaw
Trail coming up again and I can hardly
wait!
Thanks,
Marlene
