[RC] Staying with the Horse - EBraznell

No number of riding lessons will save you. But if you are quick enough to shift your weight and balance and stay with the horse you are in pretty good shape.

My trainer was riding my horse through a parking lot, and the horse spooked hugely.  The trainer promptly and instinctively went limp, which lowered his center of gravity and allowed his body to be carried by the horse wherever the horse went.  It was an amazing thing to watch.

It made me cognizant that my reaction is to tense and curl up--exactly the wrong thing to do.  So, I'm working on trying to go limp, but it's so counter-intuitive!
