There is no reason they CAN'T do both - but don't expect the show ring to reward you for bringing a fit, sleek athlete into the shwo ring, particularly the halter classes. When one considers "form to function", the winning halter horses, EP horses and even western horses nowdays, it would be hopeful indeed to feel that our fit, balanced athletes would have this as an advantage. BUT....it CAN be done, when kept in perspective, with some success. Our stallion went National as a Western horse in his youth, long before he started down the trail. Now at 17, he is back in ths shwo ring AND about 30 mile fit. Our 27 year old mare has gone A Circuit as well, in WP, EP, Hunters, Classic Head, Costume, Show Hack, Dressage, and has done endurance from age 16 to 25. Both horsers have won numerous awards in various fields. We have another few up and coming horses who are beginning to do both as well. In fact, it rather streamlines one's time to condition as on e trains - all on trail! Hey, if a horse can willingly pick up the correct lead and stay straight down a fire road, so much easier to do so in an arena - and they don't get bored!

    Good luck!
