I ride an all-purpose english saddle and having come upon this problem went to a mohair string girth. You can purchase them thru Stateline Tack. They are only about $15.00 and work wonderfully. (and they are washable) Just make sure you order the one with the roller buckles to save wear and tear on your straps.

Subject: [RC] girth problems

My horse collects skin folds behind the elbow, in front of his girth, which often become hairless and irritated. I have tried various saddles, many girths, breastcollar and crupper, with only limited help. All the saddles use a 24"-26" dressage girth. We train going up and down fairly steep hills.
I would be grateful for any ideas or suggestions.
