I also have been given horses over the
years.
One as a 8 year old, was a ice gelding but he
issues, not a good fit ( I had 5 kids running around the farm at that time) so I
sold him ( a trianer who fixed him and resold) and gave the lady
whom gave him to me the money. She just didn't have time to a sell him right so
gave him away.
And the other was a yearlying from the same
deal. He has stayed! Is now 5 and is heading for his frist LD this week end.
Indeed given is a very nice horse, she would not of had any problem selling him.
But she wouldn't sell him to kill and was sick and didn't fell she had time to
make sure they got good home. So decided to just give them to me. I ahd given
her kids a older pony years before.
We say we put them up for adoption! And I send
her picture all the time. And she stop by when she gets back to see how he's
doing. The same lady gave both the geldings dam back to the breeder she got her
from.
My farrier also gave my dauther a old pony years
ago. Knowing he'd have lots of TLC and a good end. Old Pepper was worth his
wieght in gold, butneeded lots of hof care(founder) ,He use to tell me everytime
he came out to treat him it was another payment on the pony. HA I guess it did
add up, but that old pony was priceless!
So like they say "look him in the
mouth" and if he looks like a nice horse go for it.
Sometimes they are given away form the heart not
the pocket!
