[RC] Hay question - Peggy Bergman-Smith

I need Susan Garlinghouse's (or any other nutrition experts) advice.
Here in the Bear Valley (Tehachapi) area of California decent hay all year
other than alfalfa is a rare commodity. I have just come across a good
supply of a hybrid grass hay at a good price. The growers tell me that it is
16% protein, but since it is grass hay, a different protein than what is in
alfalfa. Is this a true statement? I can get the analysis of the hay that
was done at UC Davis and will have more info when I receive that. But I am
concerned about the protein level - is is too high? During the winter, it
comes down to feeding alfalfa, or a horrible grain hay or not feeding hay.
It would be nice to have a good supply of this grass hay if it is a good
    alternative.
The more information I receive, the more I realize what I don't know!
Thanks in advance for any enlightenment & information you can give!
