Re: [RC] Price per Mile - Merryben
It is not price per mile, it is overall charges. Some rides pay upwards of $1500 just for their campground. They also pay as much as $1500 to $2000 for vets if they have 4 or 5 vets which some rides need. The dinners must be ordered ahead of time and if people don't eat, the dinners still must be paid for a lot of the time. The porta potties are upwards of $100 each. That does not count awards, mailing, phone bills, supplies such as TP, cards, pens, markers, supplies for marking the trail, etc., postage, and on and on. I am sure I have forgotten some. In answer to the next question, yes we do charge our LD riders and our 50's the same fee. In general they cost RM the same no matter which ride they are doing. The 100's are more expensive because the vets have to stay longer. But LD and 50's are about the same cost no matter what. We give the same awards for both distances.
Anyone that thinks the RM's are making money should try to put on a ride sometime. If by chance you do make a small profit, trust me you are still in the hole if you divide it by the hours and hours the RM and the secretary and the various other people put in.
Ride management people feel free to flame me. The rest of you need to try putting on a ride before you start complaining about the huge entry fees......mb
