[RC] $3/mile and no food???? - Karen
Any voices?? I just found out that this weekend I will be paying $3 a mile to
ride and there is no food??? What are average charges per mile across the
country? I just want to know. Donna and BOB
Donna -- the Morgan Springs ride is coming up and the entry to the 100
miler is only $100. Come on up and ride that trail for only $1 a mile! :+)
The cost per mile to ride is only the start of what it really costs. Just
think of what you have already got invested into your horse, your tack,
your rig. Then realize that with that huge of an investment -- how can you
afford NOT to go do a ride that only costs $3 a mile. <G> How much does
it cost to get to and from the ride. Time off work? Shoes for the
horse? Bring your own food, it'll add what -- a few cents to the cost of
each mile you ride. What about paperwork -- to go to one ride coming up
you have to present a current Coggins test at check-in. Adding more cost
per mile. Wouldn't need that Coggins if the horses weren't going to that
out of state ride.
Seriously Donna, you gotta look at what you do in an entire year. All the
rides and events you go to. Think of it as you are really spending XX
amount of dollars per mile, regardless of what the entry fee is -- so that
in the end, the difference in an entry fee being higher or lower than what
you are used to -- isn't all that significant. Just keep riding!
k
P.S. you mean there is another ride this weekend somewhere else -- I
thought every endurance rider in the world was at Tevis??????? hehe
