[RC] back problems - ash m

I have a 5yr old egyptian arab gelding that is sway back. It was caused from his previous owner which was about 250 lbs with a 40 leather saddle and he was too big for this horse at age 3. And he only had 8 hours on him. I have taken him to 4 LD's and completed 3. The last ride he did he got A's all the way through...back and everything. But just a few weeks ago we went up to the Suwannee River and trail rode and he was sore for a week but I also found out he is a little cold backed and sometimes fakes his sore back. And the ride I didn't finish he was so sore and it was just the first vetcheck. I couldn't even put the saddle on him, he literally almost fell down. I have tried my big horn western saddle, the big horn endurance saddle, and now I am using my bob marshall sportsaddle...and also about 5 pads with inserts. The sportsaddle seems to help. But also I've been longing him with side reins on to strengthen his back muscles and at times it look s like his back is improving and sometimes it looks terrible. And right now it's terrible, he is a great horse and I'd hate to give him up, he would be an awesome endurance horse with the exception of his back. I was told that the Skito Equilizer pads come with inserts to compensate the sway and that might be the answer. Does anybody else have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
      Ashley
