I have to laugh. I just took Apollo out for his first solo run, so to speak, and on one of the last downhills, a long one, I got off to run beside him. He not only ran beside me, he about ran me over. I had forgotten that he was afraid of the sponge and water bottles when I'm not in the saddle! I sure will be glad when this guy learns to carry this stuff without worrying that it is going ot "kill" him. He really wants to be brave, it is just easier if I am between the scary stuff and him!
Oh yeah, right now I am wearing hikers with half chaps. I plan on changing to a different stirrup and cages after this survey.

Hey, I'm with you! The Good Lord gave the horse 4 legs and only gave me 2, and there's a lesson in that somewhere. I only get off for things like vet checks, gates that have to be opened, that sort of thing. Horse is far more handicapped with me on the ground than he is with me on his back, quite frankly. But I still wear running shoes because they are comfortable and they breathe, plus it can get wet around water tanks, etc.--the sorts of places that I AM apt to get off--and the running shoes handle the moisture well and dry out quickly.

I remember my dad used to tail a lot going uphill but this running stuff ... Exercise is a 4-letter word in my vocabulary. I think I'll stay in the back of the pack ...
