[RC] Help me feed my horse - Levon Yengoyan
I have read the recent topics on nutrition as well as looked in the
archives. I must admit I am a bit overwhelmed by all the isses. I was
wondering if you all could help me with my specific needs. I have a 7yo
Anglo-Arab. We are in our first season of endurance. He is in very good
shape and we are averaging 1 ride (50 miles) a month with associated
training in between. He has been looking too thin lately and I am looking
for advice on my current feeding routine and some suggestions for keeping
more weight on him.
His current ration is:
Whole Oats - 6 lbs
Beet pulp - 2 lbs dry or approximately 16 lbs soaked
Corn Oil - 2 cups
These are divided up equally into a morning meal and an evening meal.
In addition he gets Probios, Glucosamine, and Northwest Supplement as well
as free access to hay and pasture (depending on the season).
The beet pulp has helped put weight on him, but I think he is maxed out on
it. Often times he will not finish his meal, so I don't think I can give
him any more. I have been contemplating addind Rice Bran although he does
not appear to like it, or perhaps switching his grain to a sweet feed (which
he loves) to get him to finish his meals. Does this feeding routine look
good? Am I missing something?
I really appreciated any advice you can give me.
Thanks
Levon
