First, let me remind all who are reading these posts that my original
objection to someone else's e-mail was that ribbons needed to be mandatory
and handed out for limited distance rides.

Now that I have said this, I also want to agree with you on the difference in
    rules and regs per region.

    Here are ours:

Response to 1. Agree completely that the horses need to be under the
    control of experienced veterinarians.

Response to 2. Per section L 6.3 of the Rules and Regs, all riders who
successfully complete the ride must receive a completion award however this
does not mean a ribbon. This can be anything from a T-shirt to a bottle of
horsespray if so chosen. Also per section L 7, if placements are given, they
must be determined using the procedure described in section 5.3 and 5.4. The
ride results will be posted in this order, but no points for placement or for
completion will be awarded. With exception of section L 8 which states that
the AERC shall record Best Condition points and Mileage for members in
Limited Distance rides. All Best Condition points and all miles remain in
the Limited Distance Program and are not transferable. Best Conditions will
    be published.

Response to 3. Gotchya on the breed thing, I never disputed that. Also,
    ditto to the age factor!

Last, but certainly not least, Section L 1.4.1 states that Limited Distance
competitors must be offered a separate and specific briefing on the special
features and requirements of Limited Distance Rides............. I would
have to assume that this is done to explain the difference between Endurance
    rides and LD rides.

After all of that, I still know that LD's were created to introduce riders to
the sport with the hope that they would upgrade to an actual endurance ride
    if they choose!

I'm all done defending myself. Make comments if you want but this e-mail was
tiring enough as it is so expect short responses from me! (smiling)
