    Thank you, Tom, for the refreshing tale about your first ride. You did
    everything right, from starting at the back after everyone else was gone, to
    riding your own ride.  To me, this is the essense and purpose of LD length
    rides.  Many people don't realize that a ride like yours does far more
    towards building base for your horse than blasting through 25 miles in 2 1/2
    hours.  IMO it is much harder for your horse to move on to 50 mile rides if
    you race him at speed in LD distances.  Keep up the good work!
