RE: [RC] Large horse-low heart-rate ?? - McGann, Barb
Scott -
Funny how things shake out...My very first horse was a standardbred; used
her on everything from english and western show classes to barrels, poles,
chased cows, drove her, drill teams, and of course, trail riding. She would
have made a wonderful endurance horse. Then, of course, out here in the
PNW, we had Misfit, one of the greatest endurance horses, who was 1/2
standardbred. Right now, in my pasture, I have 2 standardbred/saddlebred
crosses - not trained yet, but boy can they move.
They can be great horses; and I promise that I'll consult the vets, the
weather gods, and Susan's checklist before I load them up and leave early!!!

Standardbred breeding--even though they are larger, they are bred to be able
to trot repeated heats in one day, and in terms of metabolic suitability to
our sport, they'd be my choice after CMK or other old-style Arabs.
Heidi,
A rider who shares my love for Standardbreds? I apologize for any and all
cross words we ever had. Ain't they great horses? :o)
Scott
