[RC] WNV Vaccine--was--Pigeon Disease! - KathyZ1
My vet, just last week advised against getting the WNV just yet. Simply because the disease isn't out here yet. Additionally, since we don't see a high mosquito population (especially in these drought times), it may never get as prevelant as it is back east. Sort of like heartworms in dogs (which has been around in the rest of the country for decades but only shows up in isolated cases out here in the much drier SoWest).
Last I heard, it had gotten as far as Texas. Which part of Texas was it? Does anyone know?
Everyone is talking WNV because the drug company has started to aggressively advertise the vaccine in this area and the ad sounds like a news bulletin.
My vet said when he called the company about the ad, they told him he should be happy to be selling so many vaccines so as to be making the $$$$. My vet did say that many people are demanding it because of those ads, though.
Tammy says:
We do plan to vaccinate for WNV this fall.
Sandy this will be to late. Vaccinate NOW! It's coming. We just did the horses we're taking to Ft. Stanton ride next week. The vets are talking about this summer and then the vaccination will start to run on a back order due to so many horses in CA
