Re: [RC] Rice Bran questions again?--Response to Susan G - Lisa Redmond
The brewers' yeast was my recommendation a few weeks ago.
Here was the original question:
"This leads me to another question. I've recently purchased a new mare that
is very marish. Was wondering about the yeast products with the B vitamins.
I need a product that doesn't have a ton of other stuff in it to screw with
my ratios, can you recommend one? I know the yeast products I've been using
really seem to help, and in a very short time, so would like to continue but
with better product. "
So I went with brewer's yeast as a suggestion (along with the flat beer as
an alternative--my horse nutrition professor used to recommend it for the
same purpose). Old-fashioned, but it still works! That was for a different
mare, though--wasn't it, Judy?
On the oil question:. Actually, I was thinking more of anonruminant issue
than ruminant--I didn't want to give the horse any reason to refuse feed,
and wasn't sure if the corn oil in addition to the Moorman's supplement
might make the feed too oily for the horse's taste. I was also thinking that
with the horse already so stressed I didn't want to overload the liver--and
that might have been ruminant-influenced, due to recent experience with
ketotic herds on fat overload in the diet (not MY rations!). I bow to your
more current experience on this with horses, however! =)
Judy--do what Susan says to do for this mare!!!!!
On the vitamin issue--great minds think alike. This is one of those things
that drive me batty, and it's a pain in the rear to combat out in the field.
These yahoos out there bragging about natural source vitamin E being better
take advantage of the fact that the average person doesn't know anything
about d and l forms and how they are or are not used by the body. If it
were me, given the cost of biotin (Roche still has a headlock on that patent
and they are charging through the roof for biotin as well as controlling
production), I sure wouldn't be throwing in the added high price of natural
source vitamin E if synthetic in the proper amounts was cheaper and just as
effective. (I have a story in correlation to this that I'll share in
private--can't go into details here because of an ongoing situation, and it
hasn't got anything to do with either horse nutrition or endurance).
Keep us posted, Judy!
