    [RC] Mustang/Arabian crosses - Ric & Gretchen

Karen, I have always believed, that a mustang with good confirmation and the Arab would make an excellent cross and am surprised more people have not already tried it.  Especially if we accept the premise, that the American Mustang are the decendents of the Ibierian horse from Spain and Spain was occupied by an Arab culture for four hundred years.  Arab genes must be in there somewhere so a outcross in todays equine world should produce excellent hybred vigor.  As far as Appy's go I do not know much except, that here in Oregon the BLM has went to great lengths for three decades now, to cull and upgrade the wild herds, and perserve living genetic history, the Kiger herds are a good example of that... They have also established two herd, that is predominetly paints and another herd of wild horses, not far from the homeland of the Nez Perce, that tend to be predomently appy's.

For more information about the Colonial Spanish horse, visit http://www.horseoftheamericas.com
http://www.spanishmustang.org or http://www.karmafarms.com   There are many different strains of the Spanish/American Mustang; the Kigers are just one of several known strains.  They do make good trail and endurance horses.
