Another way to achieve about the same as the new cooling products is to wear a bandana around your neck and dip it in the cooler water at checks.  I have also dipped it in any stream when it has dried and I needed cooling.    Works pretty good, can also use it when wet to wipe off a hot face.   Louise

Living in SoCal, I am an expert at trying to keep cool. And here in the Inland Empire it is hot much of the year. We have seen above 100 lots already. I use a bandana tube thing with that gel stuff inside that swells in water and stays cool and wet all day. When it gets a little warm I turn it over so the up side is now on my neck. Doing that keeps you pretty cool. Also I have taken to buying all my tops at Nike and getting all the dri-weave stuff that wicks moisture away. It helps quite a bit. And I freeze all my water bottles solid. In about 15 minutes you can start drinking and they stay semi-frozen with ice for about three hours. By the end of the ride they have melted, but at least the water has been cold instead of warm all day.
