Our AHAO distance club has an award for 'older'
horses. A horse has to be 15 to qualify. There was a time, way back when, that
there were very few horses to vote on. Now we are all riding the same horses 10+
years later! Ol' Bubba is 20, Secret is 18, Lily is 17, Shadow, Foxy and Kasey
are 15 and that's just my bunch! One of Donna Stewart's mares is around 20 and
usually takes first in her division if not Grand or Reserve on our CTR's.
Mickie, Mollie, Vivian, Mike A, Deb, and Janet to name a few, all have 'older'
horses still kicking butt!
Maggie--and our CTR's are 6-7mph
Foxy--kicking butt!? but I get in trouble for
that!!
I'm just wondering what 'older' means anymore. With
good nutrition, regular exercise, a good attitude and with good and
sensible riding, it seems to me that more horses might qualify for this
exalted status than we realize. Thoughts??
