RE: [RC] LD again - Steph Teeter
Karen - to answer your question about who has priority at vetchecks: It's
fairly common practice to give priority to continuing riders if the
vetchecks are backed up. Sort of depends on the ride, and on what else is
happening. It doesn't really matter what distance the rider is doing, but if
he/she is coming in for a hold and will be continuing, it may be reasonable
to ask to go ahead of riders who are judging for BC, or waiting for
completion. It's not the best scenario though, since it can be hard on hot
horses to stand and wait for a completion exam. And it may make a difference
in BC judging if a horse is judged after 1 hour, or after 1 1/2 hours. In my
experience it is rare for a ride manager to mandate one way or the other -
usually it's something that happens spur-of-the-moment if vet lines get
backed up. If the lines aren't outrageous, I prefer to have everybody just
stay in line as they are - or at least ask, rather than demand to bump the
line.
But - it's not unique to LD riders. Often 50 mile completions are asked to
wait while the 75's or 100's see the vet so they can start their hold and
feed their horses - since they'll be going back out again.
Don't take it personally :)
Steph
