[RC] protecting horses. - Cheryl & Randy Winter
As far as taking a pulse and fairness is concerned, used the hand held
monitors on each horse so there is no human error, and it is there for
anyone to see. We have several rides out in Colorado, Wyoming, and South
DAkota that have several of these monitors that are shared for P&R use
between the rides. Takes away the expense of each ride having to have their
own monitors. Then always have a back up stethoscope user who is competent
incase there is any question of a monitor not functioning correctly. But
that can usually be checked out on horses in camp the night before by using
the monitors on several different horses to test for accuracy. The RM
always tell the PR people to get to the HR being used for the day and have
it stabilize there for about 10 seconds before calling time.
