Re: [RC] WNV Newsflash - Tamara Woodcock
I still have a couple of questions on this vaccine...
Is anyone *sure* it only takes 2 shots? I've heard some say need a series
of 3.
How long between shots in the series? I've heard 2 weeks, 3 weeks, and 4
weeks.
How long before it gives protection? Immediately, 1 month, 3 months?
How long does it last? Until next year or does it need a quarterly booster
like I used to use for the show horses for influenza?
If it takes 2 shots, a month apart, and then you have to wait 2 months
before it is effective, and then it only lasts 3 months, doesn't seem nearly
worth the effort of just keeping the horses protected from mosquitos in the
first place. Fluff is nice sometimes, giving something to a horse becasue
it makes me feel good and won't hurt them, but fluff in vaccines is not a
good thing <g>
I have one of my seven currently vaccinated (he came to me vaccinated). I'd
rather not use and not-as-riqorously-tested vaccine on the rest of my horses
if it is not PROVEN useful.
Inquiring minds want to know,
