[RC] PR check on trail - Cheryl & Randy Winter
In the same vein that Steph is talking about, I do think that there is
another consideration with a P&R check on trail between the VC. It allows
the horses that are fitter to assume their lead while it helps the less fit
horses to slow down by taking them off the herd adrenaline rush that may
keep them going faster than is good for them. If RM really wants to make
sure to slow people down then make the time to reach criteria shorter, say
20 mins. I do think there are things that can be done to help the horses
out, but not have to be a full fledge check early on in the ride, say
around 12 miles or so. I really think sorting the horses out early helps
them settle down into their pace and not the herds. Just a thought.
