You need to meet Jim Prueter. He's a rider from Ohio who rides a little
bitty buckskin Spanish Mustang stallion. He uses a modified McClellan
saddle, leather crupper, heavy leather breastcollar (like on Dances with
Wolves), leather bridle, leather saddle bags. Even the strap on his sponge
is leather. He wears jeans, cowboy boots, chambray western shirt, and an
oilskin hat if it rains. IMO he works a little harder than the rest of us,
but he has just as much fun. Neat guy, too.
