Re: [RC] Pre-Ride VC Issues and a few other - C. Eyler
At OD this year MM-S went out of his way to ask the vets, at the veterinary
control meeting on Friday, to please not get into competitive lameness
evaluations. (And it was MM-S who reminded the vets that being lame was not
going to kill a horse, while bad metabolics certainly could.) His asking
couldn't guarantee anything, of course, but the vets were reminded ahead of
time.
And, it was agreed upon at the meeting on Friday that hazing was not to be
permitted, though I did later see one instance of someone running after a
horse at a VC trot-out.
A CRI was done on every horse at all VC's and at the finish. Again, all the
vets were reminded at the pre-ride control meeting that the CRI is only one
factor to be considered. I saw more than one horse with a less than ideal
CRI that was allowed to continue.
