RE: [RC] Pull Rates - Jerry & Susan Milam
I just got back from the Top of the Rock ride in Indiana where the pull rate
was 20 of 49-50 horses. That's a 40% pull rate. Not all were forced vet
pulls at least 2 were RO's. I was a rider option pull. There were a few
lameness pulls that I could see and the rest were metabolic pulls.
This seems extremely high to me.
Could a factor have been a money purse offered by IAHA to the top 10 placing
teams? Another factor was the heat of 93 degrees and high humidity. Clark
State Forest is also a grueling trail in itself at a moderate pace.
I know I had a problem with the start of the ride being way too fast. I
pulled at the 15 mile point of the first loop of 25 miles because my horse
was "grain brained" due to my stupidity and I could not control him. My
horse wasn't the only one who was in IMO going too fast as showed in the
rate of pulls for this ride.
Anyone out there shed any light on this subject of pull rates?
Thanks,
Susan and Fly Bye-- who survived to ride yet another endurance ride
somewhere in the future.
