Anyone out there shed any light on this subject of pull rates?

Well I was there as an FEI official ..(there were about 6 of us for 2 horses) and so had lots of time to just observe...Spent most of the day taking PRs and hearing riders say"  He (she) usually doesn't take this long to come down....etc etc"  Waited for the lightbulb to come on but usually they were pulled before they realized that if the horse is not acting normal, it is time to reevaluate their ride...either slow down, more elytes, more eating...rider option pull...something.
Could have made a fortune predicting which horses would not finish if I could have found someone to bet with...
100 milers finished all 4 horses IMO, because they went much slower during the heat of the day and took care to manage them correctly.
Saw some cramping a la Biltmore which as far as I can remember, is the first time for that in another ride.
